The Neighborhood

Welcome!

Welcome to our neck of the woods.  As Lauren would say, "We live on an island in the middle of no-where".
Ambergris Caye is a great place to vacation, and we'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Belize Budget Suites.  The following information should assist you in getting around the local neighborhood.  You'll find things run on "island time" down here (which means), it happens when it happens.  We're here to make sure you're vacation runs smoothly and is enjoyable.

The Beach

Caribbean Ocean at Sunrise
If you're like everyone else, the very next question everyone usually asks is:  "How far is it to the beach?"   The beach can be accessed by taking a short 1-2 minute walk from the property to the shoreline.  As they say in Belize, "All beaches are owned by the Queen", so everyone is entitled to free public use and access.  Typically beach chairs are reserved for guests staying at the various beachfront hotels.  Just throw your towel down on the sand, and enjoy a wonderful afternoon with friends and family as you relax, soaking up some island sunshine.  If you feel thirsty, most beachfront hotels do not object selling you an assortment of cool refreshing drinks and snacks.

La Fonda de Nilo

La Fonda de Nilo Restaurant - 652-7977 (Closed Tuesdays)
Within walking distance from Belize Budget Suites, is a very nice little restaurant called La Fonda de Nilo.  They offer anything from steaks, pastas, seafood, even individual pizza's for kids.  I have often personally walked there myself, to enjoy a wonderful evening out.  My favorite is the vegetarian pizza, with a glass of Merlot house wine.  Why not stop in at La Fonda de Nilo - will not disappoint.

La Divina Providencia
Restaurant & Grocery Store

La Divina Proviencia - 226-4205 (Closed Wednesdays)
Right around the corner in the Escalante Sub-division.  Susan Flores runs her family business right from her home, she is both a grocery store and a community restaurant.  Many guests upon arriving on island, found this to be a perfect choice.  You can not only grab a bite to eat, but you can purchase groceries for the next day - all in one stop.  La Divina Providencia is within walking distance from Belize Budget Suites.

Robyn's Kitchen BBQ

Robyn's Kitchen / Jamacian BBQ - 600-3583
Robyn's Kitchen is located just around the corner (about a 2-3 minute walk), from Belize Budget Suites. Barbecue wouldn't be barbecue without Robyn behind the grill.  They serve an assortment of local dishes.  So if you're interested in trying barbecue Belizean style - ask Robyn to fix you up.  Jamaican Jerk Chicken $7.00 USD | Curry Chicken $7.00 USD
Fish Fillet $10.00 USD | BBQ Chicken $7.00 USD | All orders come with coleslaw (or potato salad) and rice & beans.

Hidden Treasure Restaurant

Hidden Treasure Restaurant - 226-4111 (Closed Tuesdays)
Like Belize Budget Suites, Hidden Treasure is tucked away in a quiet little neighborhood on the the island, just south of San Pedro.  If you're looking for something with great food and ambience, nestled in a rustic setting, then look no further.  Hidden Treasure lives up to it's name.

Caribbean Chicken Grocery Store

Caribbean Chicken Grocery Store - 674-4248 (Closed Sundays)
A very nice local grocery store is about a 5-6 minute walk, from the property.  I've walked it many times myself.  It’s a small neighborhood grocery store, so the selection is fairly limited, but you’ll find most of the basics.   The store is very clean, air conditioned and most of the items you routinely buy can be found here.  Their meat selections is what makes this store stand apart from the rest.  I feel the quality of meat here, is far superior to any other place in town.  They do not carry fresh produce or dairy products, as you typically purchase these at the local produce stands.  Milk & cream here in Belize, are sold in box containers.  Jaymin calls this the slurpy store, it's where he gets the drink with the straw attached (that goes inside the pouch).

Shaseryn's Produce Stand

Shaseryn's Produce is another local produce stand within walking distance of the property.  What I really appreciate about these guys, is "they aim to please".  You will often be asked, "When do you plan on eating your selection?"  This allows them to make sure you've picked the best piece of produce that's right for you.  They bag your selections, and place it on your golf cart.  I buy things from them weekly (Jaymin & I will often make the trek on foot), just for the experience of spending time together.

Las Paletas Belize

LAS PALETAS BELIZE - 600-8066 (Closed Saturdays)
Just before you reach Maria's produce stand, you're going to stumble across Regina's Organic Fresh Fruit Palette's (pop-cycle) stand.  These are really popular with the young adults and the great thing about them - they're all made with fresh fruit ingredients.  These make a great snack after a day of diving, snorkeling, fishing or sailing.  Each day, flavors change and many of the flavors you will never be able to try back home, because they're made with tropical fruits only found in Central and South America.  This is a "MUST DO" for anyone, if you have a hankering for something cold and refreshing.

Maria's Fruit Stand

Maria is just about the sweetest person on planet earth.  Maria & her husband run a local fruit & vegetable stand, just around the corner from the property.  Not only does she sell fresh fruits & vegetables, you can pick up some homemade salsa, and fresh squeezed fruit juices while you're there.  Each suite at Belize Budget Suites has a 10-12 cubic refrigerator, which is large enough to store an assortment of fresh fruits, drinks and beverages.  No mini refrigerators here!
