Mexico Rocks Snorkeling
Mexico Rocks & Tres Cocos is protected from ocean swells and currents, so it makes it easy to snorkel for beginners. Water depth is only about 6 to 12 feet, so you can see everything up close. Duration: Half Day (morning or afternoon) Morning Tour: 9:00 a.m. to Noon Afternoon Tour: 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Snorkeling Gear: Fins, Mask, Snorkel Included: Cold bottled water, fresh fruit at snorkeling intervals, transportation to & from site, licensed guide. What to Bring: Camera, cell phone, personal medications (for the day), light jacket or windbreaker, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, beach towel, swimsuit, cash for park fees (if applicable), and tipping your guide. Description: Located about (6) miles north San Pedro Town off Ambergris Caye, you will find one of the most beautiful snorkel sites known as Mexico Rocks & Tres Cocos. These snorkeling sites are located on the second largest barrier reef in the world.
Mexico Rocks is a star coral patch, located in the shallow waters midway between the reef and the island. Snorkelling at Mexico Rocks is very shallow, with a maximum depth of only about (12) feet. Mexico Rocks is known for having many conch, banded shrimps, arrow crab, grunts, yellow tail snappers, and an assortment of Butterfly and Angelfish. Tres Cocos is named after three tall coconut trees on shore used to locate the site. The reef here gets as shallow as (4) feet. Here you will find the most beautiful corals, colorful species of both large and small fishes, shrimp, parrotfish, fairy basslet, sea urchins, spider crabs, lobster and many other small critters of the sea. You will also see magnificent elk horns, sea whips and sea rods that make good protection for the juvenile fishes. The highlights of this trip are the mountains of brain coral, which grow up to (20) feet. On the sandy seabed, you might even see stingrays, eagle rays, and peacock flounder. Nurse shark are very common at this site. Mexico Rocks & Tres Cocos are located inside the reef, and protected from the bigger ocean swells, making it an excellent beginner’s snorkelling spot. Depths range from (4 to 12 feet), so you can see everything up close. Water visibility in this area of the crystal clear, about 50 feet or more. |
