Since time is on your side, with the right itinerary, you can see the country from the top to bottom, visit a few off-the-beaten-path locations and still have plenty of time to relax and go slow when needed. Related: One week in Belize Two Weeks in BelizeThis 14 days in Belize itinerary involves spending 4 days on the beach at the islands of Ambergris Caye and/ or Caye Caulker, 4 days in the jungles of Western Belize (staying in San Ignacio, Cayo), 1 day exploring Tikal Maya Ruins in Peten, Guatemala and 3 days in the Southern Coast of Belize (staying at either Hopkins or Placencia, both located in the Stann Creek District). Day 1 in Belize:
Your international flight will land at the Phillip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) in Belize City.
Make your way to Caye Caulker or Ambergris Caye. You can either take a local flight from the airport or catch a watertaxi from the Belize Watertaxi Terminal.
Day 2 in Belize:
See amazing marine wildlife by snorkeling the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley.
In Caye Caulker, explore the many colorful shops and end the day at the “The Split”. If you’re in San Pedro, indulge in the many amazing restaurants and then go bar hopping.
Day 3 in Belize:
Dive the Great Blue Hole. Yes, of course, it’s on your bucket list!
For a full day of diving, add the Half Moon Caye Wall and The Aquarium dive sites to your tour package.
OR, choose a more relaxing tour and go Manatee spotting.
Day 4 in Belize:
Take a day trip to Orange Walk and explore Lamanai.
Return to San Pedro.
Day 5 in Belize:
Travel to the Cayo District.
Stop off at the Belize Zoo or go Cave tubing/ Ziplining.
Arrive in San Ignacio.
Day 6 in Belize:
Canoe Barton Creek cave.
Explore the Mountain Pine Ridge Nature Reserve. This may involve visiting Caracol, the largest Mayan temple in Belize, swimming at Big Rock Falls or Rio On Pools and trekking the Rio Frio Cave.
Day 7 in Belize:
Visit the Mayan site of Xunantunich or Cahal Pech (great for early morning birding).
Visit the San Ignacio Iguana Hatchery and explore downtown San Ignacio (market day is on Saturdays).
Eat at my favorite restaurants: Ko-ox Hannah, the Guava Limb or Erva’s Restaurant.
Day 8 in Belize:
Journey into Xibalba, the Mayan underworld by touring the Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave.
Day 9 in Belize:
Cross the Guatemalan border and have lunch in Flores, Peten.
Explore the Tikal Mayan Ruins and spend the night there. Make sure you wake up early to see the sunrise from the main temple, it’s magical.
Day 10 in Belize:
Return to Belize and head to Placencia or Hopkins in Southern Belize.
Tour Bocawina National Park or Monkey River.
Day 11 in Belize:
Bike around Hopkins or Placencia and spend the day at some of the best beaches in Belize.
Discover all the colorful bars and cafes and if you’re in Placencia, end the day at Tutti Frutti, having the best gelato in the world.
Day 12 in Belize:
Spend the day diving or snorkeling at Gladden Split. It’s a bonus if you’re in Belize during Whale Shark Season!
Day 13 in Belize:
Hike the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary in search of the elusive jaguar.
Have dinner at Maya Beach Hotel bistro or Rumfish y Vino.
